The Nigeria Police Force have successfully rescued 9 of its officers who were kidnapped by unknown armed men suspected to be bandits.
DCP Frank Mba, the force Public Relations Officer, disclosed this information in a statement released on Friday and sent to CRIMECHANNELS.
It could be recalled that on the 8th of November, 9 Police officers who were on their way to Gusau in Zamfara state reportedly went missing between Kankara town and Sheme in Katsina state after they were ambushed by suspected bandits.
Part of his statement;
“Covert operations to locate and rescue the officers commenced immediately they were discovered missing en-route to their destination.”
“Thus, the apparent delay in commenting on the unfortunate incident was a deliberate decision aimed at protecting the integrity and confidentiality of the rescue operation and the concomitant safety of the officers.”
“It is also important to state that the preliminary investigation has shown that the attack on the vehicle was an opportunistic crime as the officers were all travelling in mufti. The men were unarmed, so they couldn’t defend themselves.”
“The total number of cops involved in the kidnap incident is 9, and not 12 as reported by most media publications.”
“Also, 2 of the rescued Police officers are currently receiving treatment while the other 7 are being debriefed by the Force.”
He also said that investigations into the incident is still ongoing, while noting that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has assured Nigerians of their safety on major roads and highways during the festive season
