A Yoruba leader and a member of the Senate during the Second Republic, Prof Banji Akintoye, has said Yoruba People’s journey to redemption has begun.
Akintoye said this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Media and Communications Secretary of the group.
Akintoye, elected as Alana of Ilana Omo Oduduwa, formerly known as the Yoruba World Congress, is the worldwide leader of the group with its international secretariat in Lagos, and national secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He said, “The Yoruba journey to redemption has started, and soonest, we are going to reach our Cannan land without any bloodshed.”
Akintoye announced a former Commissioner for Education in Osun State and former Director of Institute of African Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof Wale Adeniran, as the Interim National Chairman of Ilana Oodua while a renowned architect, Opeoluwa George Akinola, was named Interim General Secretary with an Ondo State-based varsity don, Kayode Akinwande as his assistant.
The professor of History assured Yoruba people all over the world that they shall soon get their freedom.
He said the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria and the amalgamation of 1914 of the Southern and Northern Nigeria in 1914 were means through which the assets and sovereignty of the people of the Middlebelt and Southern parts of the country were hijacked.
