Mike Ejiofor, a former director of the Department of State Services (DSS), has said it is likely that President Muhammadu Buhari ignored the information from the agency about Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy’s alleged link to terrorist groups.
Ejiofor spoke on Monday on Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily.
The former DSS director said it would be difficult for the information to have passed the agency before Buhari appointed Pantami as minister.
He said the DSS only looks at the suitability of an individual for a position and does not determine the appointment.
“I’m not the spokesperson of the DSS but it would be difficult for that information to have passed the DSS.
“If the state security service for instance submit a report on an individual to government and government fails to act on it, who is to blame?” he asked.
He cited the case of Ibrahim Magu, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who was rejected by the senate for confirmation on three occasions, but was allowed to continue as acting chairman by the President until serious allegations were brought against him.
“You are a witness to the issue of Magu who the senate rejected on three occasions but he remained in office until government found it necessary to remove him.
