Suspected kidnappers have ambushed a first-class traditional ruler in Ekiti State, the Elewu of Ewu-Ekiti, in Ilejemeje local government area, Oba Adetutu Ajayi.
The Nation gathered Oba Ajayi was waylaid on Friday evening while traveling to a neighboring Ayetoro-Ekiti when the arm-wielding attackers suddenly came out from the bush and rained bullets on his official vehicle.
A source told newsmen the first traditional ruler, who sustained gunshot injury, narrowly escaped death.
He is said to have been hospitalised in one of the private hospitals in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, ASP Sunday Abutu, regretted the incident that happened despite the joint patrol by operatives.
Abutu said the Police Commissioner, Mr Babatunde Mobayo had directed the combined forces of police, Amotekun Corps, Vigilance Groups, local hunters, Chiefs, drivers’ union, motorcycle riders, farmers and other stakeholders to comb the forest and fish out the perpetrators.
