The Nigerian military with vigilantes, on Thursday, repelled an attack by bandits on Sarkin Pawa, the headquarters of Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.
Sarki Pawa is the community persons displaced by bandits’ attacks in the state are taking refuge.
It was gathered that the gunmen who were armed with sophisticated weapons invaded the community around 1:00pm.
However, the Nigerian Air Force combined with members of the vigilante corps in the state helped to repel the attack.
According to Daily Trust, sources disclosed that the military and vigilantes engaged the bandits in a gun battle.
But the bandits, who started shooting sporadically when they entered the town, killed one man.
Some other people were also injured in the battle that reportedly lasted for about an hour.
The bandits were said to have escaped after the military and vigilantes overwhelmed them.
Sani Abubakar Kokki, co-Convener, Concerned Shiroro Youths, who also confirmed the attack, said the casualty figure is unknown.
“The bandits were forcefully chased out of the town. After a fierce gun battle, the deadly criminals withdrew from the town. The casualty figure is however still sketchy at the moment,” he said
