On Wednesday morning, tragedy struck in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, when a mobile police officer fatally shot a woman who has not yet been identified and then shot himself.
The strange incident took place in the Ilorin metropolis’s Chapel Redemption, UMCA, Agba Dam area.
According to unconfirmed reports, the officer committed the act because of a paternity dispute involving a child from their relationship.
Olalere Micheal, the mobile police officer, had been stationed at the Government House in Ilorin up until the incident.
An Online News Platform gathered that the deceased police officer had reported in the office, signed for his weapon and headed to the woman’s location.
Reports said on reaching the location, he allegedly shot the woman dead and then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
The tragic incident turned the state police command into confusion as it became a major topic among officers and men.
When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, informed newsmen that an investigation has been launched into the incident to ascertain what went wrong.
He said the police command would issue a statement on the matter after a police investigation.
