… Odds Favour Tokunbo Wahab, Tayo Ayinde’s Loyalists Keep Hope Alive
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu is having a tough time over who to appoint as his Chief of Staff (CoS).
Lagos Monitoring Team gathered that whilst the odds are highly in favour of the immediate past Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, the loyalists of the former Chief of Staff, Mr Tayo Ayinde are also keeping hope alive and making frantic efforts to ensure the return of their man as CoS.
The news is already flying around that the powers that be have settled for Wahab to emerge as the CoS.
Events of the coming days will reveal the veracity of the news.
Wahab, a seasoned real estate lawyer, is a consummate politician and technocrat who is believed to be eminently qualified to assume the position of CoS.
Wahab campaigned vigorously for the re-election of Mr Governor and deployed his office to galvanize the youth and students’ groups.
On his part, Ayinde was said to have performed creditably well as CoS during the first term of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his loyalists are pushing for his return.
He is a former officer of the Department of State Security (DSS), serving in the process as the Chief Detail to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (now President) when he was Governor of Lagos State.
Like Wahab, Ayinde also campaigned vigorously for the re-election of Mr Governor, setting up an Independent Campaign Group with various directorates.
A major snag on Ayinde’s return, according to a source, is the scandal that surrounded the death of his wife, Princess Adedoyin Raliat Ayinde (nee Ojora).
In the coming days, the Governor will have to announce the Chief of Staff and also other key appointments including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Press Secretary (CPS) as well as cabinet members, among others.
