The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and haziness across the country from Thursday to Saturday.
NiMet’s weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja, predicted sunny and hazy skies over the northern region on Thursday throughout the forecast period.
According to it, sunny skies with patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere are anticipated over the North Central region throughout the forecast period.
”Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are anticipated over the southern inland states and the coastal areas in the morning hours.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Imo, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States,” it said.
The agency forecast dust haze over the northern region throughout the forecast period on Friday.
According to NiMet, sunny and hazy skies with few clouds are anticipated over the North Central region throughout the forecast period.
It envisaged cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine over the inland states of the South and the coastal areas in the morning hours.
NiMet predicted localised thunderstorms over parts of Abia, Edo, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States later in the day.
”For Saturday, dust haze is anticipated over the northern region throughout the forecast period.
”Sunny skies with patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere are anticipated over the North Central region throughout the forecast period.
“Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected over the inland states and the coastal areas of the South in the morning hours.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Edo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States,” it said.
NiMet urged the public to take necessary precautions as dust particles are in suspension.
The agency advised people with Asthma and other respiratory issues to be cautious of the present weather situations.
“Moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods. The public is advised to take necessary caution, avoid driving and walking through flood waters.
“Strong winds are likely to precede and accompany the thunderstorms, citizens are advised to take necessary safety precautions.
“Disaster Risk Managers, Agencies and individuals should be proactive to avert loss of lives and property during rainy season.
“Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it stated
