Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Engr. Gbenga Olu Komolafe and former governor of Lagos, Babatunde Fashola, have been conferred with honorary degrees of the University of Benin.
They were conferred with the degrees at the 48th convocation of the institution.
Komolafe was awarded with Doctor of Science, while Fashola was awarded Doctor of Law.
Other awardees include, Chief Charles Edosomwan, Ph.D, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, wife of Edo state governor, Doctor of Business Administration, Mr Olukolade Dotun-Asegbulube Doctor of Science, Osaro Isokpan. Doctor of Business Administration, and Pharm. Paul Enabli Doctor of Science.
Conferring the award on the recipients, UNIBEN Vice Chancellor, Prof Lilian Salami, said the awardees have made unique and outstanding contributions to the progress of the university and national development.
One of the recipients, Engr. Komolafe, said the award shows that the society is “watching us and that we should strive to give our best to the nation believing that the nation is watching so that our labour would not go unrecognized”.
“Today my self and other honorees are appreciative of UNIBEN that recognized our various individual contribution to the national development and we are poised to do more to this great nation,” he said.
He called on the young ones to feel challenge to contribute their quota to the national development and that at a point in time their contribution would be recognized.
On his part, Fashola charged the graduands to give back to the society as their degrees was a service to the society and the school.
“On behalf of the honorees, I pledge our commitment to the University of Benin,” he said.
