National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has been re-elected into his position. The election was held at the ongoing National Convention of the party holding in Nnewi, Anambra state.
The convention is holding amidst anxieties and apprehension over the party’s future. Abure and the Presidential candidate of the party in the last election, Mr. Peter Obi, are believed to be locked in a battle for the soul of the party.
The Chairman of the National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu declared him the winner during the party’s national convention.
Meanwhile, a group within the Labour Party, (LP), Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress, (LPPMC) last Monday called for immediate cancellation, or suspension of the proposed National Convention
LPPMC in a release issued Monday titled “Inclusiveness in repositioning the party”, and signed by its National Coordinator, Dr Kingsley Okundaye said the proposed Convention be restrained, cancelled and or suspended indefinitely, to give room for wider and adequate consultations of the Stakeholders and the members of the party, in line with the constitutional provisions, for a unified future Congresses and Convention.
