Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi has been appointed as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory.
The appointment of the 41-year-old Professor of International Law was announced on Wednesday at the valedictory Senate meeting on the university campus in Abuja.
She was previously the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics
Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, stated that Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi’s appointment as acting Vice-Chancellor is temporary, pending approval by the Governing Council, as he prepares to conclude his tenure in three days.
Meanwhile, Maikudi expressed her appreciation to the Senate members for their trust in her, as she accepted the role.
“I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me,” she said.
Maikudi, born on January 31, 1983, holds the distinction of being the youngest female Professor of Law in Northwestern Nigeria and the University of Abuja (UniAbuja).
Her academic journey began at Queens College, Lagos State, where she earned her WASSCE certificate.
She then pursued higher education at the University of Reading, graduating with an LLB in 2004, followed by an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005.
She further achieved a remarkable milestone by obtaining her PhD in International Law from UniAbuja in 2015.
Maikudi began her academic career at the University of Abuja on September 4, 2008, as a Lecturer II, and diligently rose through the ranks to become a professor in 2022.
She made history as the first female Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Law in 2018 and later became the inaugural director of the UniAbuja International Centre in 2019.
