Emmanuel, a 300-level Linguistics student at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State, has been shot dead.
The incident occurred while he was in his off-campus hostel, where he resided.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown as of this time of reporting but there are speculations that it might be cult-related, though this has not been confirmed.
Comrade Oladele Emmanuel, vice chairman of the National Association of Universities Students (NAUS), confirmed Emmanuel’s death in a statement released on Monday.
He expressed deep sorrow over the loss and called for a thorough investigation.
“The circumstances surrounding this tragedy remain unclear, leaving us all with questions and a deep sense of loss,” Comrade Emmanuel said. “In times like these, our collective safety and well-being must be our paramount concern.”
He urged the AAUA management, the state government, and security operatives to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
“It is imperative that justice prevails swiftly, and the perpetrators of this heinous act are held accountable,” he added.
Comrade Emmanuel emphasised that the university community needs reassurance that such a tragic event will be met with the full force of the law.
He highlighted the irreplaceable potential and contributions of Emmanuel to the academic environment.
The NAUS vice chairman extended his deepest condolences to Emmanuel’s family, expressing the collective grief of the AAUA community.
“We mourn his untimely departure and extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.
“We must come together to ensure that our university remains a safe and nurturing environment for everyone,” he urged.
“Increased security patrols, better lighting, and more accessible emergency services are critical steps towards ensuring our safety,” he emphasised.
