Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, saw their Olympic dreams come to an end after suffering a crushing 74-88 defeat to the United States.
Despite a valiant effort, the Nigerian side was unable to overcome the might of the reigning champions, ultimately losing the game.
The team’s exit from the Olympics marks the end of an impressive run, which saw them make history by becoming the first African team to reach the quarterfinals.
Rena’s Wakama’s side put up a fight in the final quarter to win 26-12, but it was not enough as a better USA side held on to their lead to book a semi-final spot.
Nigeria lost the first three quarters 17-26, 16-26, and 15-24 respectively.
Although disappointed, the D’Tigress team can hold their heads high, knowing they gave it their all and left everything on the court.
Their impressive performance throughout the tournament has earned them praise and admiration from fans and critics alike.
As they bow out of the Olympics, the team can take pride in their achievements and look forward to future competitions, where they will undoubtedly continue to make Nigeria proud.
