Some Of The Beneficiaries Of The Fish Farming Training
Known for his unrelenting Socioeconomic Projects and Community Interventions, Hon. Dr. Dolapo Badru, Federal House Of Representatives Member, Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1 in collaboration with the Federal College of Freshwater Fisheries Technology, New Bussa, Niger State Organised CatFish Farming Training For Constituents on Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1 to further empower and alleviate poverty in Lagos State.
One Hundred (100) residents of different age categories were trained on Aquaculture at the Beni Hotel Conference Centre, Olowogbowo Community, Lagos Island, Lagos.
The 2-Day Economic Empowerment Initiative started on Thursday 10 and ended Friday 11 October, 2024.
In his speech, the Lagos State All Progressives Congress(APC) Deputy Chairman, Hon. Moshood Olanrewaju Mayegun who represented Hon. Dr. Dolapo Badru highlighted the importance of the Training.He stated that Vocational Skill Acquisition is crucial to developing Local economy and Uplifting the Constituents in Nigeria’s emerging economy.
Hon. Mayegun urged the Beneficiaries to make optimal use of the Knowledge and Business Techniques acquired at the Training.He listed numerous Constituency Projects Dr. Badru had executed over the years.
In an interview, the Coordinator of the Vocational Training Programme, Mr. Femi Ajose stated that the Economic Empowerment initiative would enable the Beneficiaries to increase their streams of income and improve their standard of Living.
He tasked them on Productivity and Business management.
On her part, the Deputy Provost of Federal College of Freshwater Fisheries Technology, New Bussa, Niger State, Dr(Mrs) Ime Ibanga-Uche said the programme was basically designed to provide comprehensive training on Aquaculture for residents on Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1.
Continuing, she said: “At the end of the Course, the Beneficiaries would be able to rear and process different species of Catfish for sale in commercial quantity in the Local and International markets”.
According to Dr. Ibanga-Uche, Aquaculture has the potential to meet the daily demand for fish in the country and increase foreign earnings for Nigeria.
She noted that fish is a major source of animal protein for human consumption.
A Beneficiary, Mr. Tunde Montana commended Dr. Badru for the noble economic initiative. He said the Fish Farming Training and Startup Capital would alleviate poverty among the Constituents.
At the end of the Programme, Graduants were presented with Certificates and Startup Capital.Each of them received One Hundred and Twenty Five (N125,000).
Recall that in the same week, Dr. Badru in partnership with National Centre For Technology Management(NACETEM) organised a 5-Day Cyber Technology and Management Training for Youths On Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1. Certificates and Laptop Computers were gifted to the Graduants.
