The House of Representatives Committee on Hajj has vowed to investigate how each of the 95,000 Nigerian pilgrims paid N8.1 million as 2024 Hajj fare.
Speaking to Voice of America, VOA, chairman of the committee, Ja’afaru Damisa, said the House would investigate how much was spent on each pilgrims across all the Hajj components.
Mr Damisa, the member representing Borgu/Agwara federal constituency, said the committee decided to launch the investigation in view of the widespread speculation that the 2025 Hajj would reach N10 million or more.
He said the committee would invite the officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, to give breakdown of the costs spent for each pilgrim and how much remained.
The Shettiman Barkum said the exercise would be made soon in preparation for the 2025 Hajj exercise.

“This is in view of the widespread speculation that the upcoming Hajj could reach N10 million or even higher.
“We will invite the officials to give us a breakdown on how much spent on fligt accommodation, feeding and other components and see how much was spent and how much remains.
“If there is some money that remains, we will ensure prompt refund of the money to the pilgrims, preparatory to the 2025 Hajj, ” he told VOA in its weekly programme, “Manuniya”, monitored in Kano on Friday.
The chairman also expressed confidence on the new NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdallah Saleh-Usman to take the Hajj commission to the promised land.
According to Mr Damisa, “we are confident in him in view of his vast knowledge of Islam and years of Hajj experience.
“We are confident in him and we will give him maximum cooperation to take the Commission to the promised land,” he assured.
