Aisha Yesufu, a Nigerian human rights activist, has made it clear that her support for Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, isn’t absolute.
In a recent interview on the podcast “Mic On” with Seun Okinbaloye, she stated that she’d be willing to switch allegiance if a better candidate emerges for the 2027 presidential election.
Yesufu emphasised that she’s not a Labour Party member, but rather supported Obi in the last general election because she believed he was the best candidate at the time.
According to Yesufu, her commitment puts Nigeria’s interests above party loyalty or personal affiliations.
Her activism has been instrumental in bringing attention to critical issues, such as the #BringBackOurGirls and #EndSARS movements.
She said: “Absolutely, if there is a better candidate, I will go with the better candidate. I’m not tied to anyone or anything. And I can tell you something, even Peter Obi himself, like he said he is not desperate to be the President, but he is desperate to see Nigeria work.
“He himself said that if there is a better candidate, he will support that candidate. It is about our country that we need to be rescued, it is not about anyone. It is not about anyone occupying an office.”
Aisha Yesufu also described President Bola Tinubu as a “bad person” in the face of the growing hardship faced by millions of Nigerians.
She said this while reacting to Senator Ali Ndume’s statement in a series of post on X, saying Tinubu is ‘the bad person’.
Yesufu wrote: “Tinubu is the bad person. Call a spade a spade and not a garden implement.
“’A bad person’ is an understatement. I said Tinubu is the bad person,” she added.
