The Lagos State Government and United Nation Children Education Fund (UNICEF) have concluded plan to administer vaccine on residents against yellow fever and other Infectious diseases in the State.
This was made known at a Media Orientation on Non- Polio Supplemental Immunization and Yellow Fever Campaign on Monday 14 October, 2024 in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, the exercise will begin Saturday October 19, 2024.
Residents between the ages 9 months to 44 years would be vaccinated across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
While speaking with Newsmen, the Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board (LSPHCB), Dr. Abimbola Bowale said the State Government was targeting a 95% Covarege.
Speaking further, He stated that vaccinations is free.
He also said the vaccines are available at Primary healthcare Centres and Health officials would be deployed for door-to-door Vaccine administration.
On her part, A Social and Behaviour Change Specialist with UNICEF, Mrs. Aderonke Akinola charged the media to intensify reportage on vaccination against preventable diseases.
She however frowned at misinformation and myths on vaccines.
“The immunization activities would encompass multiple vaccines”, she said.
She emphasized that vaccines are safe and potent.
The Immunization Programme Coordinator, Dr. Akinpelu Adetola stated the State Government was set to cover the remote communities.
He stated further that major Stakeholders would be engaged to ensure that the exercise is successful.
Dr. Adetola enjoined parents and guardians to avail their children for the statewide immunization.
