The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly recalled Cadet Inspectors of Courses 33, 34, and 35, who were unlawfully retired in obedience to the judgement of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Suit No. NICN/ABJ/281/2021.
The Police Service Commission had in a letter dated July 3, 2024, with Ref: PSC/REC/2020/252/III/266, directed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to recall Cadet Inspector of Courses 33, 34, and 35, retired unlawfully contrary to first date of appointment into service and pay all their entitlements and promote them to their due ranks while those due for retirement should be retired accordingly.
The Commission in the letter addressed to the IG and signed by Alh. Abubakar Aminu Malumfashi, Director, Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, which SaharaReporters obtained on Monday, was titled: “Re: Passionate Appeal For The Regularization For Date Of First Appointment For The Force Entrants Cadet Inspector Of Courses 33, 34, And 35.”
The commission had in the letter also directed the Police Chief to update the service records of the category (A,B and C) to be in terndem with the officers appointment date and not enlistment.
While it noted that those on voluntary retirement are not entitled to be reinstated, promoted, allowances/entitlement; and no salary, the commission advised the IG to avoid further allegation of discrimination.
The commission further directed the Inspector General of Police to implement other Force Entrants who do not belong to this category and urged him to implement the decisions, convey to the Officers concerned and inform the Commission accordingly.
However, in obedience to the directive, the IG in a wireless message through the office of the Nigeria Police Force Secretary, DTO:241213/07/2024 directed all those affected to report between 12/08/2024 to 16/08/2024 with their relevant documents for update of service records.
The wireless message was addressed to all departments, commands, Units, formations and divisions.
With Ref: CB:3380/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.IV/233, the message partly read: “Cooperation with other government bodies; Re: Passionate Appeal For Regularisation of Date of First Appointment Force Entrants Cadet Inspector Court Judgement, Implementation of Judgement of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) Suit No. NICN/ABJ/281/2021.
“INGENPOL has graciously approved the implementation of aforementioned judgement. That first date of appointment into service of force Entrant Cadet Inspector, Course 33 w.e.f 10th June, 1994; Course 34 w.e.f 15th August, 1996 and Course 35 w.e.f 1st May, 2000.
“Those on voluntary retirement are not affected. Inform them accordingly, force Entrants Cadet Inspectors serving in your units and formations. They are to report with relevant documents for update of service records w.e.f 12/08/2024 to 16/08/2024 unfailingly. Above for your information. Treat as very important.”
