Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have reportedly killed a yet-to-be ascertained number of farmers in the Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The incident occurred at Dogon Dutse on Tuesday, according to security sources.
One of those killed was identified as Salihu.
The gunmen reportedly burnt Salihu and his motorcycle after shooting him to dead.
“Herders on Tuesday killed many farmers including a vibrant youth leader, Salihu, at Dogon Dutse in Nasarawa state,” one of the sources said.
“I can’t confirm the actual figures of the casualties recorded now.”
The source said security forces have been deployed to the community to restore normalcy and maintain law and order.
Another source who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters said several other persons were injured.
He expressed sadness over the renewed killings, calling on the security agencies to take a decisive action to permanently put an end to the needless killings.
Calls put across to DSP Ramhan Nansel, police spokesperson in Nasarawa, were not answered nor returned.
However, a senior police officer told SaharaReporters that the command has received official information on the matter.
