Alfred Illiya-Ajang, the member representing Jos South and East Federal Constituency, has announced his defection from the Labour Party, LP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
His defection was announced in a letter read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during plenary on Thursday.
Mr Ajang cited, “the crisis in the leadership of the Labour Party” and other related issues as reasons for his defection.
However, the announcement threw the House into a brief rowdiness.
Some opposition lawmakers expressed concern in the content of the letter.
Among those who raised a point of order is the minority leader, Kingsley Chinda.
Mr Chinda argued that the letter is not in accordance with the constitution of the House and as such should be rejected.
He said as a standing order any member who wishes to defect must first inform his constituents and party members on the platform on which he was elected before any letter is read.
