Babafemi Ojudu, a former special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters, has said the ex Nigerian president wasn’t a visionary leader.
He said it was the lack of the vision of the former president that made him not support former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s presidential bid.
Mr Ojudu, who disclosed this while featuring on a podcast titled State Affairs, anchored by Edmund Obilo on Monday, however, described the former president as a patriot and an incorruptible leader.
When asked why Mr Buhari didn’t back Mr. Osinbajo for the presidency, the former presidential aide said,: “I think Buhari wasn’t a visionary. I was a very big admirer of Buhari because of what I saw in his first term and because of his attitude, pattern, and lifestyle.
“But coming up close, I didn’t see much of vision; it’s unfortunate I’m saying [this]. He is a patriot of Nigeria, and he’s incorruptible. Take it from me, his needs are few.
“Those are good qualities, but they are not enough when you are a leader. You have to design good vision, and that’s what makes us celebrate Awolowo today; he was a visionary.”
Mr Ojudu added that the country missed a chance to produce another Obafemi Awolowo in Yemi Osinbajo.
