The inferno, which reportedly began around midnight on Christmas Day, continued into the early hours of Boxing Day, prompting a swift response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it has resulted in extensive damage to the institute’s property, with losses reportedly running into millions of naira.
However, no casualties have been reported so far.
Firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly and worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to nearby structures.
Meanwhile, despite their efforts, the fire proved challenging to extinguish entirely, as it raged on Thursday morning.
Efforts to bring the situation under control are ongoing, with authorities investigating the cause of the incident.
The FIIRO office, a key research hub for industrial development in Nigeria, houses critical facilities and documents.
