Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of Sylvester Oromoni, the 12-year-old boy who tragically died in 2021 after allegedly being bullied at Dowen College in Lagos, has reportedly passed away.
It was gathered that her death occurred in late November, following a battle with intermittent blood pressure-related health issues.
Meanwhile, Mrs Oromoni’s death comes just over seven months after a special court in Lagos ruled against the family in April.
Sylvester Oromoni was a 12-year-old student at Dowen College in Lagos, Nigeria, whose tragic death in November 2021 garnered widespread media attention and public outcry.
The incident raised serious questions about bullying, school safety, and the responsibilities of educational institutions regarding the well-being of their students.
Oromoni’s death was reported to be as a result of injuries allegedly sustained from being bullied by fellow students at the boarding school.
His family claimed he was tortured and that he suffered from a series of physical assaults leading up to his death.
Sylvester’s parents sought justice, and the case quickly became a focal point for discussions about bullying in Nigerian schools and the need for better protective measures for students.
The legal proceedings surrounding Sylvester’s death were complicated and prolonged. His family pushed for accountability, but there were reports of a lack of cooperation from the school and resistance in the legal system.
The narrative around the case raised serious concerns about the power dynamics in educational institutions and the challenges families face when seeking justice for crimes against their children.
