The Ogun police command says its operatives have arrested Akintoye Waris, a suspect, for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a goat worth N200,000 for his child’s naming, in the Odeda area of the state.
The PUNCH quoted Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson in the state, as saying that Waris and Ajayi Yusuf, his accomplice, were nabbed by men of the Odeda division on Thursday.
Odutola said the suspects allegedly invaded a farm on December 25, and stole the goat after the farm owner identified as Mark took cattle for grazing.
Odutola said after Mark’s return, a search was conducted in the community after discovering one of the goats was missing, adding that some villagers said the suspects were seen with the goat on a motorcycle.
The command added that detectives were dispatched following the tip-off, and the suspects were arrested in the early hours of January 2.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, explaining how they stole, transported, and later slaughtered the he-goat on December 27, 2024,” Odutola said.
“They disclosed that the goat was used to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Akintoye Warris’s daughter, which was held at Olodo.
“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch.”
The command assured residents that the suspects would face trial after investigations, and promised updates on the case as necessary.
