Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chairman and members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) at the Lagos House, Ikeja, on Friday, 10 January 2025.
The newly constituted commission, led by Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile, is charged with overseeing the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos State.
The team also comprises Mr. Samson Ajibade, Mr. Akin Durojaiye Oluwo, Dr. Olumide Olusola Metilelu, Mr. Abeeb Dapo Aileru, and Hon. Oladele Adekanye.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to democracy, accountability, and the rule of law, emphasizing the pivotal role of credible elections in fostering sustainable development.
“Credible elections are the bedrock of democracy and a key driver of sustainable development. We remain strongly committed to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections,” the Governor stated.
He assured that the government would provide LASIEC with all necessary support to execute its mandate effectively.

They are tasked to demonstrate innovation and commitment in their respective roles, coordinating the forthcoming local government elections across Lagos State.
In addition, the Governor inaugurated three newly appointed Permanent Secretaries: Mr. Abdul Rafiu Omowole Fashola, Mrs. Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi, and Mr. Abdul-Rasheed Abiola Muri-Okunola, urging them to adopt innovative approaches in advancing the state’s THEMES+ Agenda.

The Governor urged all the appointees, including LASIEC members and the Permanent Secretaries, to carry out their responsibilities with a strong sense of duty and dedication to the people of Lagos.
He highlighted the importance of inclusivity and collaboration in building a state where every voice is heard and everyone feels valued.
The Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, described the confirmation of the Chairman and Members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) as timely, emphasizing its significance with the Local Government elections fast approaching.
He stated, “This will undoubtedly enable them to effectively organize elections across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas within the State, without fear or favor.”
Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile and Mr. Abdul Rafiu Fashola, spoke on behalf of the LASIEC members and the newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries respectively, pledged their commitment to the responsibilities entrusted to them.
They assured their dedication to delivering transparent and credible elections later in the year while contributing to the successful implementation of the THEMES+ developmental agenda.
