Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was barred from accessing the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters on Wednesday, where lawmakers currently hold plenary sessions.
Reports indicate that Fubara arrived at the Assembly quarters in the morning to present the 2025 state budget but was met with locked gates, preventing his entry.
The governor had previously pledged to implement the Supreme Court’s judgment, which includes formally presenting the 2024 budget. The budget was initially presented to a four-member Assembly faction in December 2023.
Last week, the Assembly gave Fubara a 48-hour ultimatum to present the 2025 budget. In response, the governor stated he was waiting for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court ruling before proceeding.
On Sunday, Fubara, through a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, invited Speaker Martins Amaewhule and lawmakers for discussions on the Supreme Court ruling.
The meeting was expected to address key issues, including the budget presentation and the payment of outstanding salaries to lawmakers, as part of efforts to resolve the state’s ongoing political tensions.
