Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered treatment to the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed details about the rapper’s final moments before his death.
Testifying before Justice C.A. Shotobi at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Friday, Ogedengbe recounted that Mohbad suffered a reaction and began vomiting after receiving a tetanus injection.
She explained that she had stepped out to purchase additional medical supplies when she received an urgent call informing her that Mohbad had started convulsing.
According to Ogedengbe, she was contacted on September 12, 2024, by one Ayobami Sodiq, also known as Spending, to treat Mohbad at his Lekki residence. Arriving at approximately 2:30pm, she noticed a swollen cut on his right hand.
“I administered the tetanus shot to his upper arm,” she stated, adding that after confirming Mohbad had an ulcer, she opted to give him paracetamol instead of diclofenac.
She then injected him with 4ml of paracetamol diluted with 1ml of water, followed by a slow 10ml dose of ceftriaxone for a bacterial infection.
However, as she administered the ceftriaxone, Mohbad experienced discomfort and went to vomit.
“After vomiting in the toilet, he returned to the room and sat on the floor, where I noticed the goosebumps on his body,” she testified.
Ogedengbe said she pointed out the reaction to Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, who reassured her that it was his usual response to injections.
She also revealed that at the time of the treatment, only four people were present in the room: herself, Mohbad, his wife, and Ayobami.
She recalled asking Omowunmi why she had not mentioned the singer’s tendency to react that way to injections.
“Omowunmi then took Mohbad to the bathroom and began pouring water on his head,” Ogedengbe added.
Realising the gravity of the situation, Ogedengbe and Ayobami rushed to a pharmacy to obtain medication for the reaction. However, they encountered delays at the first pharmacy.
“After visiting another pharmacy and obtaining the necessary hydrocortisone injection and normal saline infusion, we returned to find Mohbad outside the house. By then, preparations were underway to take him to the hospital,” she said.
Due to a lack of available vehicles and heavy traffic, Mohbad was transported to the hospital on a motorcycle. Tragically, he was declared dead on arrival.
Ogedengbe noted that upon reaching the hospital, medical personnel initially hesitated to treat him, leading to confusion.
She further revealed that Mohbad’s body was taken back to his residence around 8pm. Meanwhile, she and others went to Orchid Lekki Police Station to obtain a death certificate.
After inquiries, they were directed to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah for further reporting.
Following cross-examinations by Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN (representing Mohbad’s family), Kabir Akingbolu (counsel for Omowunmi), and the Lagos State legal representatives, the case was adjourned to Friday, March 21, for further hearings.
In a related development, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at a Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, had earlier stated that Ogedengbe and Sodiq would be prosecuted for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Meanwhile, the court acquitted popular musician Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, along with music promoter Samson Balogun (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, of any charges in the case.
