President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a stern warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, cautioning that he could lose his position if the upcoming Abuja elections favor his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), too heavily.

Speaking at a dinner held on Saturday evening to celebrate Eid-Al-Fitr, Tinubu openly reminded Wike of his responsibility to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the nation’s capital.

“Give me any opportunity for my party to win elections in Abuja. I know where you are coming from, your own party,” Tinubu said, addressing the minister. “If this thing goes too much in your own favor, you will lose your job.”

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a prominent member of the opposition PDP, was appointed by Tinubu in a move that surprised many political analysts. Despite his political background, Wike has pledged his loyalty to the president and has been instrumental in implementing key policies in the FCT.

The president’s remarks have sparked discussions about political pressure on public officeholders and the neutrality of the electoral process in Abuja. Critics argue that such statements could undermine the credibility of the upcoming elections, while supporters see it as a call for strategic political alignment.
