President Donald Trump has announced plans to implement a travel ban on 43 countries, according to a report on Saturday by Reuters, which referenced an internal memo and sources familiar with the matter.
The memo categorizes the 43 countries into three groups: red, orange, and yellow.
Although the list has not yet received official approval from the Trump administration, it includes multiple African nations, though major African economies like Nigeria, South Africa, Algeria, and Egypt are not included.
The red group, which includes 11 countries, will see a total entry ban for their nationals.
These countries are Afghanistan, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Cuba, Bhutan, Venezuela, North Korea, Yemen, and Somalia.
The orange group, consisting of 10 nations, will face significant visa restrictions.
These countries are Russia, Belarus, Myanmar, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Pakistan, Laos, Turkmenistan, Haiti, and Eritrea.
Countries in the yellow group have been given a 60-day window to resolve the concerns raised.
This group comprises 22 nations: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.
The New York Times was the first to report on the proposed visa ban list.
A US official told Reuters that the list may be subject to revisions and has not been finalized, including by key figures such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
This move is part of an ongoing immigration crackdown initiated by Trump at the start of his second term in January.
