The Nigeria Police Force has said that its operatives in a series of coordinated operations rescued 21 kidnapped victims, arrested six suspects involved in violent crimes, and recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and ransom money amounting to N4.8million.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made this known in a statement issued on Monday, said that the operations were carried out across the country including Taraba State.
Adejobi stated that police operatives from the State Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, intercepted a kidnapping operation along the Takum/Mararaba road on Saturday.
“A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the rescue of 20 kidnapped victims. Two of the victims who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical care,” he said.
The Force spokesperson noted that the victims were found alongside several abandoned vehicles.
Similarly, in Kano State, an extensive investigation into the March 8, 2025, kidnapping of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau led to the arrest of five suspects.
Adejobi stated that following a detailed technical analysis, the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad apprehended Tukur Lawal, also known as Maikudi, along with Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim on March 18 and 19.
The authorities recovered a locally made rifle and N4,840,000 in suspected ransom payments. Dr. Yushau was safely rescued and reunited with his family.
He said, “On March 18th and 19th, technical analysis led police operatives from the state Anti-Kidnapping Squad to apprehend Tukur Lawal AKA Maikudi, along with accomplices Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim.
“In their possession, authorities recovered a locally made rifle and N4,840,000 in cash believed to be ransom money. The victim was rescued unhurt and reunited with his family.”
In another operation, the Special Tactical Squad (STS) acting on credible intelligence arrested Kafinta Musa of Taraba State for his involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal firearms possession.
During the arrest, an AK-49 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was seized.
He said that investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of his criminal syndicate.
Adejobi added, “The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has commended the officers involved in these daring operations for their bravery and professionalism.
“The Force urges continued cooperation from the public in providing timely information to aid in the fight against crime.
“These successful operations underscore the dedication and joint commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and the good citizens of Nigeria to safeguard communities and ensure the safety and security of all.”
