FCT Minister, Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike was seen in Abuja attending a meeting of government ministers, dispelling rumours that he had collapsed due to excessive alcohol consumption and suffered a partial stroke.
Speculation circulated on Friday night alleging that Wike had collapsed at a meeting and was initially taken to the State House Clinic, where doctors purportedly detected a high level of alcohol in his system.
The unverified reports further claimed that the condition triggered a stroke, prompting doctors to warn that his condition might be irreversible and could leave him unable to stand again.
The rumours suggested that Wike was subsequently flown to an undisclosed hospital in France for advanced medical treatment.
However, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to Wike on Public Communications and Social Media, dismissed the reports as “fake news.”
Contrary to the rumours, Wike was present at the Presidential Banquet Hall in the State House, Abuja, on Sunday, where he joined President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries for an Eid-El-Fitr homage.
Wike led the delegation and delivered the opening remarks, after which guests presented greeting cards to the President.
The gathering included lawmakers representing the FCT at the National Assembly, area council chairpersons, traditional rulers, leaders from both Christian and Muslim communities, and senior judicial officers.
Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Social Media, shared videos on his X account confirming Wike’s presence at the event.
“FCT community led by the Honourable Minister of FCT, HM Nyesom Wike pay Eid-El-Fitr Homage to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House Banquet Hall,” he captioned one of the videos.
In another post, he wrote, “Honourable Minister of the FCT, HM Nyesom Wike presents Sallah Felicitations card to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on behalf of residents of the Federal Capital Territory.”
Wike’s public appearance seemingly quashes the speculation surrounding his health.
