Buchi
Popular gospel singer Buchi has shared the transformative events that led him to leave behind his life as a member of a notorious cult and find redemption through his faith in Jesus Christ.
In a recent interview with ‘Black Flame’ podcast, Buchi described a gathering of around 200 people from various age groups and social strata, with some carrying local lanterns (atupa) all accompanying a coffin. They belonged to an unnamed cult which united them to “fervently pursue a cause”, to create chaos.
He disclosed that as a lecturer and a PHD student, he led the “voyage” singing songs with his powerful voice. Suddenly, a mysterious voice spoke to him, saying “You do not belong here” twice, during the cult procession, and according to Buchi, he was profoundly shaken by the voice even after completing the midnight ritual.
He further revealed that after chaos was achieved, he went into hiding, fearing for his life and only came out at night. However, one day, Buchi overheard someone inviting another person to church, and on a whim, he decided to tag along.
“It was from hibernation that someone invited someone to church-not me- I overheard…but I was bored stiff so I tagged along,” he said.
“What I saw in church intrigued me” Buchi recounted, saying the pumping music, atmosphere of devotion, and a man so absorbed in worship that an enigmatic smile played on his lips while tears streamed down his face, left him spellbound.
Buchi said that one experience in church changed him completely. He felt a strong sense of conviction from the Holy Spirit, which led him to give up his old life and become the famous gospel singer we know today.
