Operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja were thrown into disarray on Wednesday as workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) staged a protest over unpaid salaries and poor staff welfare conditions.
Chanting slogans like “No weather, no flight! Fly at your own risk!”, the disgruntled workers grounded parts of airport activity, warning of potential safety risks if their demands are not swiftly addressed.
The protest, which began in the early hours, drew the attention of both domestic and international travelers, many of whom expressed concern about the implications of the demonstration on aviation safety.
