Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims that he collapsed last week, describing the rumors as politically motivated falsehoods intended to mislead the public.
Speaking on Thursday after inspecting four ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), the former Rivers State Governor reaffirmed his commitment to his ministerial duties and dismissed the allegations as mere speculation.
“I don’t want to give credence to people who are only interested in spreading rumors. First of all, I am a human being. It is not a ghost that will collapse; it is a human being that will collapse if there is any issue with their health. Unfortunately, I did not collapse,” Wike stated.
Vanguard reports that the rumors, which gained traction on social media platform X, alleged that Wike collapsed at an event in Abuja last Friday and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
However, these claims were quickly debunked when the minister made a public appearance a few days later during a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
Wike’s presence at the event and his high-spirited demeanor further dispelled concerns about his health.
His media aide, Lere Olayinka, had earlier dismissed the reports as completely false, emphasizing that there was no truth to the claims.
Despite the viral nature of the rumors, Wike remains focused on his ministerial responsibilities, particularly overseeing key infrastructural projects within the FCT.
His public appearance and direct dismissal of the allegations reaffirm his stance against what he considers politically driven misinformation aimed at undermining his position.
