As the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for its local government primaries on Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Lagos State Government has announced significant traffic diversions around the party’s State Secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi urged residents and motorists to plan ahead, as Acme Road will be fully closed to vehicular movement throughout the day. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be on ground to manage traffic and guide commuters through alternative routes.
According to the directive, there will be no access to Acme Road from Adeniyi Jones, Lateef Jakande, or Acme Crescent.
Alternative routes announced include:
From Adeniyi Jones: Use Aromire to reach Allen Junction.
From Allen Avenue: Take Aromire to Ladipo Oluwole, then through Guinness.
From Akilo Road: Connect via Wemco Road to Lateef Jakande or Omole.
Residents without urgent or essential business in the area are strongly advised to avoid it entirely to help reduce congestion and ensure the smooth flow of the primary exercise.
Meanwhile, key APC stakeholders have called for calm and unity ahead of the primaries. At a closed-door meeting, APC elders including Governance Advisory Council (GAC) Chairman, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized the need for peaceful conduct.
“With patience and support, there will be a way out. That is why wisdom is applied in politics,” Olusi told party faithful.
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dr. Hamzat urged aspirants and supporters to embrace the party’s tradition of consensus. “Let’s do it the way we’ve always done — through consensus,” he said.
The APC local government primaries are expected to determine chairmanship and councillorship candidates across Lagos’ 57 LGAs and LCDAs, setting the stage for the forthcoming local council elections.
