President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, May 12, 2025, officially administered the oath of office to two newly appointed National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and two members of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), during a brief swearing-in ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The INEC commissioners sworn in are Abdulrazak Tukur, representing the North West geopolitical zone, and Sunday Aja from Ebonyi State, representing the South East.
Their appointment follows their nomination by the President in November 2024 and confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
Also sworn in were Ikpeme Ndem from Cross River State and Justice Buba Nyaure from Taraba State as members of the Code of Conduct Bureau.
The ceremony took place shortly before the commencement of the 27th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which later proceeded into a closed-door session.
In attendance at Monday’s FEC meeting were several top government officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Also present were key cabinet members such as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, among others.
Punch reports that at the previous FEC meeting held on May 5, 2025, the Council had approved the Renewed Hope Nigeria-First Policy, which is designed to promote the prioritization of locally produced goods and services in all government procurement processes.
