President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a swipe at opposition figures allegedly forming a political coalition to thwart his re-election bid in 2027, branding them “political internally displaced persons (IDPs).”
Tinubu made the remarks on Wednesday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, while commissioning several legacy projects executed by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
According to Vanguard, he praised Sule’s performance and described the governor as an example of good governance tied to the success of his own administration.
“Sule is doing well because a Bola Tinubu is doing well, too,” the President said.
Commending the governor’s prudent use of resources, Tinubu noted: “I could see hard work coming from A.A Sule, who is determined to use the resources available to him for the benefit, stability, and prosperity of Nasarawa State.”
Turning his attention to the reported opposition coalition which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai Tinubu dismissed the alliance as an irrelevant political distraction. He likened the planners to displaced politicians without a political home.
“Those who have triggered the early politics in the perdition of coalition suddenly. Don’t pay them any attention; they are the political IDPs. Don’t give them a home; the hope is here,” he said.
He accused the coalition of launching premature political campaigns and warned that he would not sit idly by while attempts are made to undermine his presidency.
“I’m not geared for what they tried to pull on me. Early political campaign, but who is the politician who will keep quiet when the gangsters are forming a coalition to unseat themselves?” he asked.
Despite the economic challenges the country is grappling with, Tinubu insisted that progress is being made under his leadership.
“We’ve cut the waste. I won’t say much on the economic dynamism that we’re facing, but the hope is here. From this moment on, you’ll have no regret,” he assured.
He pledged continued federal support to Nasarawa State and applauded the efforts of First Lady of Nasarawa for her contributions to the state’s development.
