The factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi has revealed that preparations are underway to expel Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, for alleged anti-party activities.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, Arabambi accused Obi of violating the constitution by aligning with another political party while claiming LP membership.
“We’re convening a NEC meeting where Peter Obi will be expelled.
“You know he was on suspension before he went ahead to do the anti-party activities. You don’t go and join a political party, and at the same time still put your leg in another political party. He knows it’s unconstitutional to belong to two political parties at the same time”, Arabambi declared.
The LP chieftain further alleged that Obi instigated the internal crisis plaguing the party and asserted that the former Anambra State governor lacks the qualities required to lead any political platform.
Arabambi’s remarks follow Obi’s open support for the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that has sparked internal backlash within LP ranks.
Despite his active role in the launch of the ADC coalition, Obi has maintained that he remains a member of the Labour Party.
In a recent interview, the former governor clarified that he is not a registered member of the ADC but rather a supporter of the broader movement it represents.
Obi has also reiterated his commitment to seeking the presidency in 2027, asserting that he remains fully qualified to lead Nigeria.
