
The Delta State Police Command has shot dead five suspected kidnappers and arrested five others, while recovering N5million ransom.
The suspects, SaharaReporters gathered, were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad in what the command has described as a breakthrough in its efforts to combat kidnapping and other crimes in the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest in a media release on Tuesday, said the suspects, who were identified as members of a notorious kidnapping gang, were arrested at their hideout in Ogwashi Ukwu, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Edafe said that one of the suspects, identified as Sanusi Abdulahi, was found in possession of the N5 million ransom, which was part of the money they collected from one of their victims.
The statement partly read: “On 12th July 2025 at about 0630hrs, the command Special Anti-kidnapping and cyber crime squad, CSP Godwin Osadolor led operatives and trailed suspected kidnappers terrorising Delta State to their hideout at Ogwashi Ukwu in Oshimili North LGA of Delta State, where a suspected kidnapper named Sanusi Abdulahi was arrested in possession of ransom of Five Million Naira (N5,000,000) which was part of the ransom they collected from one of their victims.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that they were allegedly responsible for a series of kidnappings at Ibusa Ogwash-Ukwu, Obulu-Okiti, Isele-Ukwu, Isele-Asagba and most recently the kidnapping of a young lady at Ogwash-Ukwu on the 9th July 2025.
“The suspect led the operatives to their hideout at second Deputy, and Oko in Asaba, where four other members of his gang were also arrested. Investigation is ongoing,” Edafe said.
Meanwhile, the command’s operatives also engaged another group of suspected kidnappers in a gun duel along the Patani-Ughelli Expressway, near the Unenurhei axis.
The PPRO said that six of the suspects were confirmed dead, while two others are still receiving treatment.
During the operation, he said the police recovered four locally-made guns and 19 rounds of live cartridges from the suspects.
The statemnet partly read: “On the 9th of July, 2025, at about 0835 hrs, along the Patani-Ughelli Expressway, near the Unenurhei axis, Operatives of CP-Special assignment team in a sting operation raided the hideout of Solomon Danisco aka “Picolo”, Nelson Jacob, Oruma Saturday, Olise Jude, Precious Urhobowin, Whisky Rufus, aka “Asawana”, a native of Ewu community.
“During the operation, the suspects, heavily armed, engaged the operatives in a fierce gun duel during which the suspects and their gang members sustained serious gunshot injuries.
“They were taken to the hospital, where six of them were confirmed dead while two others are still receiving treatment. Exhibit recovered includes four (4) locally-made guns and nineteen (19) rounds of live cartridges.”
According to SP Edafe, the command is committed to ridding the state of criminal elements and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Delta State,” Edafe said.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to apprehend and bring to justice those who engage in kidnapping and other crimes.”
The Delta State Police Command has urged residents to report any suspicious activity to the police and to cooperate with the command in its efforts to combat crime.
