The Red Star Foundation, a non-profit initiative of Nigeria’s leading logistics company, Red Star Express PLC, has announced and awarded the newest beneficiaries of its long-running scholarship program. Ten students were honored with scholarship awards, receiving cheques and certificates in the presence of proud parents, teachers, and well-wishers.
Established in 2004, the Red Star Foundation has consistently focused on transforming lives through education and community service. With a core mission to support promising students from Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) to Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3), the Foundation covers tuition, books, and learning materials—ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic potential. Over the past 15 years, more than 200 students across Nigeria have benefitted from this initiative.
In a speech the Chairman, board of trustees, Red Star Foundation, Mr. Tonye Preghafi, commended the scholars for their outstanding academic performance and expressed gratitude to the parents for their unwavering support. “At Red Star Foundation, we believe in nurturing young minds and empowering them to reach their full potential,” he noted. The foundation’s scholarship program provides more than just financial assistance; it’s a commitment to the scholars’ future. Through the mentorship program, employees guide and inspire the scholars, with some even joining the Red Star Express team. The foundation celebrates not only academic achievements but also the promise of a brighter future, emphasizing the importance of investing in youth to shape the community and nation at large.
Speaking at the event, the Group Managing Director of Red Star Express, Mr. Auwalu Babura, emphasized the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to the academic and personal development of its scholars. He highlighted the employee-driven mentorship program, which pairs Red Star staff with students to provide guidance and encouragement throughout their academic journey.
Also addressing the audience, Group Marketing Director Mr. Charles Ejekam congratulated the new awardees and reiterated Red Star Foundation’s long-term investment in Nigeria’s youth. He spoke passionately about the organization’s broader social impact, which includes health and welfare initiatives such as eye care programs and support for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Mr. Ejekam also noted that some former scholars have gone on to join the Red Star team after graduation—a testament to the sustainability and far-reaching impact of the program.
Special guests included Dr. Mrs. Obarotimi Christianah, representing the Ministry of Education, District VI, Oshodi. In her remarks, she applauded the Foundation’s dedication to “recycling potential into purpose,” encouraging the students to remain focused and make the most of the opportunity they’ve been given. Parents also expressed heartfelt gratitude, sharing their hopes for a brighter future made possible by the Foundation’s support.
The event concluded with the formal presentation of cheques and certificates to the scholars by Mr. Babura and other senior executives, followed by photographs and words of appreciation from beneficiaries and their families.
