The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has provided further clarification on the incident involving, Ms Comfort Emmanson, a passenger of Ibom Air at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MM2) in Lagos State on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
There has been outrage over human rights violations by airport security who violently removed her out of the airplane, leading to her clothes been torn and her private parts exposed.
However, in a statement on Friday, FAAN issued further clarification, adding that FAAN Aviation Security (AVSEC) was not initially involved.
According to the statement posted on its official X handle, FAAN said, the initial response to the incident was handled by Ibom Air’s security personnel and the Bi-Courtney Aviation Security Team, as MM2 is a privately-owned terminal operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited.
FAAN’s Aviation Security (AVSEC) team became involved only after Emmanson was transferred to the Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit for official documentation and handed over to the Nigerian police for prosecution.
FAAN explained that within the MM2 Terminal, which is classified as a Private Tenant Restricted Area, its AVSEC officers are responsible for passenger and baggage screening at designated checkpoints, while the Bi-Courtney Aviation Security Team oversees general terminal security operations.
The statement partly read, “The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to provide further clarification regarding the incident that occurred on Sunday, August 10, 2025, involving a passenger of Ibom Air at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MM2) in Lagos.
