The Department of Education and Library Services, Lagos Island local government, has commenced registration exercise for the beneficiaries of its free five hundred(500) General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms.
The exercise started on thursday, 14th August, 2025, at the council secretariat. it entails bio-data capturing and documentation of prospective candidates.
According to the executive chairman, Hon. Prince Taiwo Oyekan, the free GCE forms distribution, is a pilot scheme designed to provide a second chance for students and private individuals to obtain a secondary school certificate, supporting access to further education and careers.
“It is part of my action plan to promote basic and tertiary education on Lagos Island local government”, He said.
Hon. Oyekan stated that education is the bedrock of any society.
In her words, the head of education and library services department, Mrs. Aminat Olanike Lawal said the free GCE forms were distributed to indigent students to encourage them in their academic pursuits.
One of the beneficiaries, Quyum Olamikekan, expressed appreciation to Hon. Oyekan.He stated that the intervention scheme would enable him to further his education.
Miss Wasilat Boluwatife Ayinla said the kind gesture would lessen the financial burden on her parents. she commended the council chairman.
