Nollywood veteran Adeola Shoremi, popularly known as Lanko, has opened up about a deeply personal chapter in his life, revealing that his father disowned him for eight years due to his decision to pursue a career in acting.
The seasoned Yoruba film star shared the emotional story in a recent interview, calling it one of the toughest moments of his journey.
Lanko, a familiar face in many Yoruba-language productions, recalled how his father vehemently opposed his career choice and completely cut him off. The fallout lasted nearly a decade, with no communication between the two.
“My father disowned me as a son for good eight years. He didn’t want anything to do with me because I chose acting,” he revealed.
However, fate took a dramatic turn when Lanko’s father fell critically ill and was admitted to the General Hospital in Ikeja, where he went unattended for over two weeks.
Lanko, who was hosting an event in Ketu at the time, rushed to the hospital after being informed by his father’s wife.
“Thank God for my popularity. When I got to the emergency hall, people began hailing me. The noise drew out the doctor, who recognized me and immediately arranged for my father’s treatment,” he said.
That moment was a turning point for him, as his father’s realization of his mistake was followed by an emotional breakdown, with tears streaming down his face.
“When I went back to see my father, I found him crying. He said he never imagined a day would come when I’d be the one to save him,” Lanko recounted.
The emotional reunion changed everything in their relationship and reaffirmed Lanko’s belief in following his passion, no matter the resistance.
The actor described the ordeal as one of his biggest challenges, but also one of his greatest life lessons.
