Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against ‘One Chance’ robberies with the arrest of a notorious kingpin and two members of his gang in Ikeja, Lagos.
The suspects 53-year-old Bode Oludayisin, identified as the gang leader, alongside Michael Sowunmi (22) and David Olawaye (20) were apprehended during a routine patrol by officers from the Ikeja Division along Agege Motor Road.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest followed a swift response to an alarm raised by a victim who was being attacked inside the gang’s operational vehicle, an unregistered commercial minibus.
Oludayisin, the ringleader, has been on the police radar and was previously declared wanted for his involvement in multiple violent ‘One Chance’ robberies across Lagos.
Items recovered from the suspects include a Tecno Spark 20 smartphone belonging to a recent victim, an axe, two concrete interlocking bricks, several large stones, and a broken bottle tools the gang allegedly used to threaten or assault their victims. The operational minibus, commonly called Korope, was also impounded.
Police investigations revealed that the gang’s modus operandi involved posing as legitimate commercial drivers and passengers to lure unsuspecting commuters, especially around Oshodi. Once onboard, victims were taken to isolated locations where they were robbed at knifepoint or under physical threat.
Hundeyin assured the public that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
