Tragedy struck on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, in the early hours of Sunday when multiple crashes reportedly claimed six lives following a late-night fan racing spree after popular singer Seyi Vibez’s homecoming concert.
SaharaReporters gathered that groups of excited fans leaving the concert engaged in reckless driving and high-speed racing on the bridge, triggering a series of fatal accidents.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters showed several vehicles badly mangled in the aftermath, while good Samaritans battled to bring the chaotic scene under control.
Among the victims was a young woman who was flung into the lagoon and confirmed dead. She was buried later on Sunday in line with Islamic rites.
The five others who died in the crashes were laid to rest at Marikaz Cemetery, Agege, on Monday morning.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, for comments were unsuccessful, as he declined calls and failed to respond to messages.
