Tinubu
The Presidency has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu is unwell and may soon be flown abroad for medical treatment.
Last week, the Nigerian Institute for Investigative Journalism alleged citing unnamed sources that the presidential medical team was preparing to evacuate the President for treatment.
The report further claimed Tinubu was bedridden, which it said had caused inefficiency in governance, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing him at several official engagements.
It also alleged that multiple presidential functions scheduled for early last week were cancelled.
However, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, AbdulAziz AbdulAziz, told BBC Hausa on Monday that the rumours were false.
“There is no truth in these statements. He is still in office,” AbdulAziz said.
Questions over Tinubu’s whereabouts began after his absence from the August 3 ceremony honouring Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, where Shettima stood in.
The President was last seen publicly on August 1 at the opening of the Summit on Journalism for National Development.
Earlier, he had attended a reception for the Super Falcons following their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Morocco.
