In its renewed effort to reduce unemployment and bolster local economy, the Lagos Island local government in partnership with ‘The Speed Up Lagos Initiative’ have trained three hundred(300) residents across Isale-Eko, Olowogbowo and Okoo faji communities in different vacational skills.
The 2-week training featured different courses in the production of home essentials and cosmetology.
In his address, the executive chairman of Lagos Island local government, Hon. Taiwo Oyekan, represented by the vice chairman, Hon. Olatunji Folami said the economic empowerment scheme will reawaken the potential of the beneficiaries for self-development and reliance
He tasked the beneficiaries to put the different skills they acquired into productive use.
The Director of ‘Speed Up Lagos Initiative’, Mrs. Oluwagbemisinuola Ajetunmobi stated that the economic development training offered practical and hands-on trades opportunities for the beneficiaries.
According to her, the empowerment programme will enhance individuals’ employability and entrepreneurship.
In the same vein, the Head of Department, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation(WAPA), Mrs. Folashade Agoi applauded Hon. Oyekan’s human capital development initiative and support.
Major highlights of the empowerment programme were practical demonstration, display of products, and presentation of certificates to the beneficiaries.
