The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a clear legal framework mandating the electronic transmission of results ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The opposition party said such a law would prevent the nation from being held back by “glitches” and technical failures that marred the 2023 elections.
The call was made in Abuja on Monday as the PDP advanced preparations for its elective national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan on November 15, 2025. According to the party, the convention would mark a critical step in repositioning itself to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Speaking during a press briefing, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, stressed that the party’s demand for electronic transmission was central to ensuring a “truly independent INEC” and credible polls.
Ologunagba accused the APC of “manipulating” the outcome of the 2023 elections under the guise of technical failures. He questioned why Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and Point of Sale (PoS) terminals functioned seamlessly on election days, while INEC’s electronic system failed.
“Without a clear and unambiguous law compelling INEC to transmit results electronically, our electoral process will remain open to manipulation and doubts,” Ologunagba insisted.
The PDP maintained that electoral reforms were not only necessary but urgent if Nigeria is to guarantee transparency and fairness in 2027.
