Tensions have erupted in the PDP as governors and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s camp battle for control of key leadership positions. The governors are reportedly backing former Kano governor Ibrahim Shekarau for National Chairman, while Wike’s group is pushing ex-Benue governor Samuel Ortom for the role.

The dispute also extends to the National Secretary position, with both blocs seeking to strengthen their influence ahead of the 2027 elections. Party insiders warn the standoff could deepen divisions within the PDP if consensus is not reached.
