The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a major arms smuggling attempt, arresting two suspects transporting weapons from Jigawa to Safana.
At about 4:35 a.m. on Monday, officers on patrol along the Ingawa–Karkarku route stopped a Volkswagen Golf (Reg. RSH 528 BY ABJ) carrying a cache that included a GPMG, 1,063 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and 232 rounds of PKT ammunition.
The suspects, Abdulsalam Muhammad (25) and Aminu Mamman (23), both from Baure village in Safana LGA, were taken into custody.
Investigations are underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the weapons. The state government commended the police for their vigilance and pledged continued support to security agencies.
